Mailchimp
Use GrowthLoop audiences for Mailchimp tags on one Mailchimp Audience.
Connect this destination to export audience membership as a tag on one Mailchimp Audience, for use in Mailchimp campaigns.
This destination writes to your Mailchimp account and is a good fit when you want to:
- Make GrowthLoop audiences available as tags in Mailchimp
- Match contacts on email

All GrowthLoop exports go to the List ID you set on the destination. GrowthLoop does not create a new Mailchimp Audience for each export.
Prerequisites
Make sure you have:
- A Mailchimp account.
- A Mailchimp API Key. In Mailchimp, open API keys. Copy an existing key, or click Create A Key and give it a name. Paste the full key, including the datacenter suffix after the hyphen (for example
us21).
- The List ID for the Mailchimp Audience that should receive every export. In Mailchimp, click Audience, then All contacts. If you have more than one Audience, choose it from Current audience. Click Settings, then Audience name and defaults. Copy the Audience ID.
Set up Mailchimp as a destination
- In GrowthLoop, click the Destinations tab on the left sidebar.
- Click New Destination in the top right corner.
- Search for Mailchimp and click Add Mailchimp.
- Enter the required information, then click Create.

| List ID | Audience ID of the Mailchimp Audience that should receive every export. |
| Prefix for Personalization Fields (optional) | Prefix GrowthLoop adds to personalization fields. The default value is fw. Leave this blank for no prefix. If you set one, it must start with a letter and use up to 5 letters or numbers. |
GrowthLoop validates the connection by pinging Mailchimp with the API key. List ID is not checked until the first export. Mailchimp then appears in your list of connected destinations.
Export to Mailchimp
From within GrowthLoop, export from an audience or from a journey Destination Node. See Export an audience or Build a journey if you need more information on these steps.
After building or selecting an audience, click Export, then search for Mailchimp. In a journey, add a Destination Node under Email and select Mailchimp.
Map contact identifiers
On an audience or in a journey Destination Node, map Email address. This field is required.
This destination does not send additional personalization fields.
Configure the export
This is where you set the campaign type and schedule for audience exports. On a journey Destination Node, you set timing on the journey canvas.

Export behavior
This is what GrowthLoop writes when you export an audience.

| Ongoing adds and removals | Ongoing exports add contacts who enter the audience. Contacts who leave are unsubscribed from the Mailchimp Audience and the tag is set to inactive. |
| Deletes | GrowthLoop does not delete Mailchimp contacts. |
WarningA removal unsubscribes the contact from the Mailchimp Audience on this destination, not just the GrowthLoop tag. Use a dedicated Mailchimp Audience for GrowthLoop exports if you do not want those unsubscribes on your primary list.
Confirm the export was successful
When the run finishes, confirm you can use the data in Mailchimp.
- Audience export: Open the Mailchimp Audience for your List ID and filter contacts by the tag named after Export Name.
- Journey Destination Node: Open that Mailchimp Audience and filter contacts by the tag named after the export.
