Audience Retention Policy

Learn how to set up retention policies for audience memberships stored in your data warehouse.

In this article, we'll walk you through what an Audience Retention Policy is, how it helps save on costs, and how to set it up in GrowthLoop.

What is an Audience Retention Policy?

An Audience Retention Policy defines how long audience memberships from each export run are stored in your warehouse before being deleted. An export run refers to the process of sending audience data from GrowthLoop to a destination. This data is kept to calculate deltas (changes between snapshots), which help track how your audience evolves over time.

Retention policies ensure older audience memberships are automatically cleaned up, keeping your warehouse organized and cost-efficient. For example, data from campaigns that ended over a year ago may no longer be needed. Deleting these records after one year can save on storage costs while keeping recent, valuable data accessible.

How to Configure Retention Policies in GrowthLoop

  1. Navigate to the Organization page under Settings. Please note: you must have either Admin or Owner role access to proceed.
  2. Select the Storage tab and scroll down to find the Logging to Warehouse section.
  3. Open the Retain drop-down under Audience Snapshots.
  4. The drop-down will show a list of options ranging from 1 week to 1 year, with an additional option to store data Forever.
  5. Choose an option, such as 1 year. Optionally, you can select a custom dataset to store your snapshots. By default, snapshots are written to the audience_snapshots dataset.
  6. Finally, click Save to apply the retention policy.
