Common questions from prospects and customers about Engagement Suite—especially GrowthLoop’s native email and SMS channels. Answers reflect what Engagement Suite supports today.

For deeper walkthroughs, start with the Engagement Suite overview.

Engagement Suite basics

What is Engagement Suite?

Engagement Suite is GrowthLoop’s closed-loop system for content, activation, measurement, and AI decisioning. You create email and SMS templates, snippets, and related assets in Content Studio, activate them from journeys through GrowthLoop Channels or composable destinations, capture performance, and feed that signal back into your data cloud and the Causal Context Graph—so the next journey is smarter than the last.

How is Engagement Suite different from a traditional ESP?

A traditional ESP is primarily a sending and campaign tool. Engagement Suite keeps creative, journey orchestration, first-party email/SMS sending (optional), composable destination triggers, measurement, and AI decisioning in one GrowthLoop workflow—tied to your cloud data. You can still use external engagement platforms when you want those systems to send; GrowthLoop orchestrates who enters and which creative is used.

Do I have to replace my ESP or CX platform to use Engagement Suite?

No. Use GrowthLoop Channels when you want GrowthLoop to send email or SMS directly. Use composable destinations when creative, compliance, or deliverability already live in an external engagement platform and you want GrowthLoop to decide who enters those campaigns. You can mix both paths in the same journey.

What are the three pillars of Engagement Suite?

  • Content Studio — Create and manage email templates, SMS templates, snippets, assets, and AI variants
  • GrowthLoop Channels — First-party email and SMS sending configured under Channels
  • Composable destinations — Trigger campaigns and use native templates in external platforms from the journey canvas

What is the Causal Context Graph?

The Causal Context Graph stores what worked (and what didn’t) across your programs. Engagement Suite uses that knowledge when you generate AI content variants and when journey Decisioning optimizes toward your KPIs. Campaign and engagement results feed back into it over time so recommendations improve.

GrowthLoop Email and SMS Channels

What are GrowthLoop Channels?

GrowthLoop Channels are GrowthLoop’s first-party email and SMS sending infrastructure. In the app, open them from the left sidebar as Channels. Use them when GrowthLoop should send the message itself—rather than triggering a campaign inside an external platform.

What is the difference between Channels and Destinations?

  • Channels — How GrowthLoop sends: sending domains, link branding, sender identities, IP addresses, IP pools, unsubscribe groups, phone numbers, messaging services, and channel configurations (named sender profiles).
  • Destinations — What journeys select. Saving a channel configuration automatically creates a GrowthLoop Email or GrowthLoop SMS destination for the current team.

Until a team has a channel configuration (and its auto-created destination), that team cannot send through GrowthLoop Channels from journeys.

Do GrowthLoop Email and SMS replace my engagement platform?

They can for programs you want GrowthLoop to own end to end. They do not require you to remove existing platforms. Many teams keep composable destinations for established programs and use GrowthLoop Email/SMS for new journeys, tests, or channels they want GrowthLoop to operate.

How do I enable GrowthLoop Channels?

GrowthLoop must enable Channels for your organization. Contact [email protected] if you do not see Channels in the sidebar. You also need Owner permission to manage channels. See Configure email and SMS channels.

What do I need before I can send GrowthLoop Email?

  • A sending domain you can verify with DNS
  • Optional link branding for branded click tracking
  • At least one sender identity on that verified domain
  • An IP pool and optional unsubscribe group as required by your setup
  • An email channel configuration that bundles those settings

Saving the configuration creates the GrowthLoop Email destination for the current team.

What do I need before I can send GrowthLoop SMS?

  • Readiness to provision a sending number under Numbers & short codes
  • A messaging service that pairs a purpose (for example transactional or marketing) with a phone number
  • Optional Advanced Opt-Out keyword settings
  • An SMS channel configuration that selects the messaging service and sender number

Saving the configuration creates the GrowthLoop SMS destination for the current team.

What is a channel configuration?

A channel configuration is a named sender profile. For email it typically includes sender identity, verified sending domain, IP pool, and unsubscribe group. For SMS it includes the messaging service and sender number. Journeys send through the destination created from that configuration.

What is link branding?

Link branding lets you use a branded click-tracking domain for links in GrowthLoop email. Add link branding under Channels > Email, add the DNS records GrowthLoop provides, and verify the branded link before using it.

What is Advanced Opt-Out for SMS?

Advanced Opt-Out lets you configure opt-out, opt-in, and help keywords for a messaging service. GrowthLoop may follow up after service creation to complete Advanced Opt-Out setup.

Does each team get its own GrowthLoop Email or SMS destination?

Yes. Channel setup runs in the context of your current team (use the team toggle in the left sidebar). Saving a configuration creates the matching GrowthLoop Email or GrowthLoop SMS destination for that team. Create separate configurations when teams need different from-addresses, domains, or messaging services.

Can I add more than one GrowthLoop Email or SMS destination?

Yes. Most teams only need the destination created with the configuration, but you can add additional GrowthLoop Email/SMS destinations manually under Destinations if needed.

Where does creative live for GrowthLoop Email and SMS?

In Content Studio as GrowthLoop Content. GrowthLoop Email and SMS Destination nodes do not show platform-native External Content tabs the way Iterable or Salesforce Marketing Cloud do—GrowthLoop is the sender, and Content Studio is the system of record for that creative.

How do I send GrowthLoop Email or SMS from a journey?

  1. Add a Destination node.
  2. Select your GrowthLoop Email or GrowthLoop SMS connection.
  3. Pick a template from GrowthLoop Content.
  4. Map match fields (for example recipient email) and personalization fields, then save.

See Trigger campaigns in journeys.

Can I use GrowthLoop Channels and composable destinations in the same journey?

Yes. Mix both when different steps should send through different systems—for example GrowthLoop SMS in one step and an Iterable email campaign in another.

When should I choose GrowthLoop Channels vs a composable destination?

Choose GrowthLoop Channels when…Choose a composable destination when…

Are more GrowthLoop Channels coming?

Yes. Email and SMS are available today; more GrowthLoop Channels are planned later.

Content Studio and templates

What is Content Studio?

Content Studio is where you build and manage the creative Engagement Suite uses across journeys. Open it from the left sidebar. It has three primary tabs: Templates, Snippets, and Assets.

Are Content Studio templates the same as audience export templates?

No. Content Studio templates are email/SMS creative. Audience export templates control how audience fields are mapped on export. Do not confuse the two.

Can I personalize email and SMS templates?

Yes. Use personalization tokens such as {{first_name}} in email subject/body and SMS message copy. In journeys, map those fields to columns from your dataset group. Liquid-style variables in SMS are detected automatically and stored with the template.

Can I preview a template before sending?

Yes. Use Preview from the template row actions to render the email with temporary test data before you use it in a journey. Channel configurations also support optional test sends after setup.

What are customization fields?

Customization fields mark the parts of a template AI Studio can rewrite into variants. Creative variables such as {{gl_creative_headline}} are customization fields. Personalization tokens such as {{first_name}} do not unlock Create variant.

Which personalization options are available in Content Studio?

Use Personalization to insert warehouse fields, variables, creative variables, content snippets, and dynamic snippet slots. See Use personalization and customization fields.

Can I reuse content across templates?

Yes. Create reusable blocks in the Snippets tab, then insert them into email templates as static snippets or dynamic snippet slots. See Use snippets.

What lifecycle statuses do templates have?

Templates can be filtered and managed by lifecycle status: draft, approved, active, or archived.

How do I manage templates and variants?

Open Content Studio, then use the Templates tab and template actions menu to preview, edit, make editable copies, archive, unarchive, or delete content. To review variants, open Preview and use the variant selector in the top menu. See Manage templates and variants.

Journeys and activation

How does Engagement Suite connect to journeys?

Activation happens on the journey canvas. You add a Destination node, select a GrowthLoop Email/SMS or composable destination connection, pick content, map fields, and save. For composable destinations, choose a campaign action when prompted. Optional Decisioning nodes allocate traffic across creative Variation arms.

What content can I pick in a Destination node?

It depends on the destination:

  • GrowthLoop Email / SMSGrowthLoop Content from Content Studio
  • Composable destinationsGrowthLoop Content, External Content (platform-native templates), or existing Campaigns

What happens when I publish GrowthLoop Content into Iterable or Salesforce Marketing Cloud?

GrowthLoop uploads the content to the platform and creates a campaign in Iterable or journey in Salesforce Marketing Cloud, prompting for publish settings such as content name, campaign name, subject, and platform-specific fields (for example Salesforce Marketing Cloud send classification and publication list). The Content Studio item is linked to the platform artifact for reuse.

Does GrowthLoop Email create a separate campaign object for every variant arm?

No. For GrowthLoop Email/SMS, GrowthLoop sends without creating a separate campaign object per Decisioning arm. You assign GrowthLoop Content (parent or variant) on each branch the same way. For Iterable or Salesforce Marketing Cloud decisioning, the usual pattern is one shared platform campaign or journey with multiple content variants—publishing GrowthLoop Content on every arm creates a new campaign or journey per confirmation unless you reuse Campaigns.

Composable destinations

What are composable destinations in Engagement Suite?

Composable destinations let you do more than export an audience into a marketing platform. From a journey you can trigger email or SMS campaigns and choose creative that already lives in an external engagement platform—or publish Content Studio templates into those platforms. This replaces the earlier Composable Campaigns model with the full Engagement Suite flow.

Which platforms support campaign triggers and content picking?

Major engagement platforms include GrowthLoop Email, GrowthLoop SMS, and supported composable destinations. Platform-specific connection steps live under Destinations and the Integration Guides.

What is the difference between GrowthLoop Content, External Content, and Campaigns?

OptionMeaning
GrowthLoop ContentTemplates in GrowthLoop Content Studio. Publishing into Iterable or Salesforce Marketing Cloud creates platform artifacts; for GrowthLoop Email/SMS, content stays in GrowthLoop.
External ContentTemplates that already live in connected external destinations. Use the destination filter to narrow the list when your team has multiple content sources.
CampaignsReuses an existing platform campaign/journey—GrowthLoop does not create a new one. If the campaign supports variants, you can pick which variant to use.

What do Native and External badges mean?

Native content was created in GrowthLoop. External content was synced from a connected destination.

What should I do if a campaign shows Pending?

Some platforms need time to create or update a campaign artifact. Click Refresh in the content picker to check the latest status before you publish or rely on the campaign in a journey.

AI variants and decisioning

How do AI variants work?

You add customization fields to a parent template, then use Create variant in Content Studio. Set a Target outcome (for example “Increase email clicks”), the number of variants, and optional brand guidelines. AI Studio rewrites the marked copy. New variants appear with a Variant badge and stay linked to the parent.

Where do I assign variants for testing or optimization?

In a journey Decisioning node: choose an optimization Metric, add a Variation branch per creative arm, and under each Variation add a Destination node with that arm’s template or variant. See Assign variants for AI decisioning.

How is Decisioning different from an Experiment node?

DecisioningExperiment
PurposeAutomatically optimize toward a metricManual A/B (or multivariate) split you define
TrafficDynamic allocation across armsFixed % or count splits you set
Best forAI variants and ongoing creative optimizationControlled experiments with predetermined splits

Can I delete individual AI variants from Content Studio?

Yes. Open the variant in preview, open its actions menu, and click Delete variant. Deleting a variant is permanent. Archive the variant when you want to remove it from active use but keep the record available.

Why is Create variant disabled on my template?

Create variant is available only for templates with customization fields. Hover the action for the in-product message, then add a creative variable such as {{gl_creative_headline}} and save.

Measurement and closed-loop learning

How does measurement close the loop?

After sends run, engagement and outcome signals (including Decisioning reward rate, uplift, and traffic share) inform performance insights and feed the Causal Context Graph. That context improves later AI variant generation and Decisioning toward your KPIs.

Where do I see GrowthLoop Email and SMS channel performance?

Use channel reporting to review delivery, engagement, and unsubscribe metrics for GrowthLoop Email and GrowthLoop SMS sends. Reporting includes email metrics such as delivery rate, open rate, click rate, click-to-open rate, and unsubscribe rate; SMS metrics include delivery rate, click rate, and unsubscribe rate. See Measure channel performance.

Can I use channel data in my own reporting?

Yes. GrowthLoop writes channel data to your customer warehouse so your team can build custom dashboards, join engagement to business outcomes, and run deeper analysis in your BI or data tools.

Where do I see Decisioning performance?

After users flow through a Decisioning node, open View performance insights on the node to review per-arm Reward Rate, uplift, and Traffic share. Insights are available after the journey has run.

Do composable destination sends also feed the Causal Context Graph?

Engagement Suite is designed as a closed loop: content → activation → measurement → smarter AI decisioning. GrowthLoop Channels explicitly feed campaign results back into the Causal Context Graph. For composable destinations, outcomes available to GrowthLoop (such as metrics used in Decisioning) participate in optimization; keep using warehouse metrics and journey insights as your source of truth for program performance.
