Use GrowthLoop and external content in journeys

Select GrowthLoop Content, External Content, or Campaigns in journey Destination nodes, and publish Content Studio templates when needed.

When a journey reaches a campaign-trigger destination, choose the content source that matches how your team works. Use GrowthLoop Content for templates created in Content Studio, External Content for templates already in connected external destinations, or Campaigns for existing platform campaigns or journeys.

Prerequisites

  • A connected campaign-trigger-capable destination. See Destinations and your platform's integration guide, such as Integrate with Iterable.
  • A journey with a Destination node pointed at that connection
  • For publishing new creative, a template in Content Studio or readiness to create one from the picker

Open the content picker

  1. In your journey, select the Destination node for the composable destination.
  2. Choose a send action such as Send Email or Send SMS.
  3. Open the template or campaign control. The label may be Template, Campaign, or a similar platform-specific name.
  4. Click Pick from library to open the full content picker.
  5. Click Refresh if you need to re-pull templates or campaigns from the platform.

Choose a content source

The content picker has three main tabs:

TabUse it whenConfirm action
GrowthLoop ContentYou want to use or publish a Content Studio template.Use template or Publish and use
External ContentYou want to use a template that already lives in a connected external destination.Use template
CampaignsYou want to reuse an existing platform campaign or journey.Use campaign

Use search and Select sources filters to narrow the list. Source filters are helpful when your team has multiple connected destinations or a mix of GrowthLoop-owned and external content.

Content rows may show Native or External badges:

  • Native - Content created in GrowthLoop
  • External - Content synced from a connected external destination

Use GrowthLoop Content

Use GrowthLoop Content when the template lives in Content Studio.

  1. Open the GrowthLoop Content tab.
  2. Search or filter to find the template.
  3. Select the template and review the preview pane.
  4. Click Use template when the destination can use the template directly, or click Publish and use when GrowthLoop needs to create a platform artifact first.
  5. If prompted, complete Publish settings.
  6. Map any personalization fields to warehouse fields.
  7. Click Save on the Destination node.

Use External Content

Use External Content when the template already lives in a connected external destination. The tab can show templates from all connected external destinations, not only the destination selected in the current node.

  1. Open the External Content tab.
  2. Use search or the destination filter to narrow the template list.
  3. Select a template and review it in the preview pane.
  4. Click Use template.
  5. Map any personalization fields to warehouse fields.
  6. Click Save on the Destination node.

  1. Open the Campaigns tab.
  2. Search or filter to find the campaign.
  3. Select the campaign and review its details, such as campaign name, external ID, source platform, and status.
  4. Click Use campaign.
  5. Complete match fields and personalization mapping.
  6. Click Save.

Pending campaigns

Some platforms need time to create or update a campaign artifact. If a campaign shows Pending, click Refresh to check the latest status. Wait until the artifact is ready before relying on it in a published journey.

Complete Publish settings

Publish settings appears when GrowthLoop needs information before creating a destination artifact.

Depending on the content and destination, complete:

  • Content name - Name for the content in the destination
  • Campaign name - Name for the campaign or platform artifact
  • Subject line - Email subject, when the selected content does not already include one
  • Platform-specific fields

Salesforce Marketing Cloud fields

When the destination is Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Publish settings also asks for:

  • Send classification
  • Publication list

Both lists load from your connected Salesforce Marketing Cloud account. If they fail to load, verify the destination connection and try again.

What gets created

Publishing creates a platform artifact in the connected destination and links it to the Content Studio item. The journey Destination node stores the platform template or campaign ID so future runs use the selected artifact.

You can also start Add variants from the picker to generate AI variants without leaving the journey builder. See Generate AI variants.

Personalization mapping

After you select a template or campaign:

  1. Review required personalization or template fields exposed by the destination.
  2. Map each field to a column from your journey's dataset group.
  3. Click Save.

For deeper platform-side creative setup, see Integrate with Iterable and Integrate with Salesforce Marketing Cloud.
