Use personalization and customization fields
Add warehouse fields, variables, creative variables, snippets, and dynamic snippet slots to Content Studio templates.
Use Personalization in Content Studio to insert values that change by recipient, reusable content blocks, and customization fields that AI Studio can rewrite into AI variants.
Prerequisites
- An email or SMS template in Content Studio
- For warehouse fields, a dataset group with the customer fields you want to use
- For snippets, at least one saved snippet in Content Studio
Field types
| Field type | Use it for | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Warehouse field | Insert a column from a selected dataset group. | {{first_name}} |
| Variable | Add a named value you will map later. | {{loyalty_tier}} |
| Creative variable | Mark copy AI Studio can rewrite when generating variants. | {{gl_creative_headline}} |
| Content snippet | Insert a saved snippet into the template. | A reusable disclaimer or offer block |
| Dynamic snippet slot | Create a named slot that can be bound to different snippets later. | hero_banner |
Add a warehouse field
- Open an email template in Content Studio.
- Click Personalization.
- Select Warehouse field.
- Choose the Dataset group.
- Select the Personalization field.
- Click Insert.
GrowthLoop inserts the field name into the template. No customer data is accessed while you are editing. You will still map this field in the journey Destination node before sending.
Add a variable
- Open Personalization.
- Select Variable.
- Enter a variable name using letters, numbers, and underscores.
- Click Insert.
Use variables when you want to define a value now and map it later in the journey or destination setup.
Add a creative variable
Creative variables are customization fields. Use them for copy that AI Studio can rewrite into variants, such as subject lines, headlines, offer text, and calls to action.
- Open Personalization.
- Select Creative variable.
- Enter the Creative variable name.
- Optionally enter a Default value.
- Click Insert.
GrowthLoop adds the gl_creative_ prefix automatically. If you enter an existing gl_creative_ prefix, GrowthLoop preserves it.
Example creative variable:
{{gl_creative_headline}}
NotePersonalization fields such as
{{first_name}}do not unlock Create variant. Add at least one creative variable when you want to generate AI variants.
Add snippets
Use Content snippet when the same saved snippet should always render in the template. Use Dynamic snippet slot when you want a named slot that can be bound to different snippets later.
For a full walkthrough, see Use snippets.
You're all set!
Next, create reusable snippets or generate AI variants.
