Use Customer.io as a GrowthLoop destination to export Audiences to Customer.io
manual segments. GrowthLoop creates or reuses a manual segment named after
your Audience, identifies people in Customer.io, then adds or removes them from
that segment.

Prerequisites

Before you connect Customer.io to GrowthLoop, make sure you have:

• A Customer.io workspace with permission to manage API credentials and segments.
• A Track API credential pair (Site ID + API Key) from
  Settings → API credentials → Tracking API keys.
• An App API Key from Settings → API credentials → App API keys.
• Your workspace region (us or eu).

Note

Customer.io uses two APIs. GrowthLoop needs both:

• Track API — identify people and add/remove manual segment membership
• App API — list and create manual segments

People must already exist in Customer.io before they can join a manual segment.
GrowthLoop identifies each exported person with the Track API before adding them
to the segment.

What GrowthLoop updates in Customer.io

When you export an Audience to Customer.io, GrowthLoop:

• Creates or reuses a manual segment named after your GrowthLoop Audience
• Identifies each person (creates or updates the profile) via the Track API
• Adds people in the Audience to that manual segment
• Removes people who leave the Audience from that manual segment

GrowthLoop matches each exported record using the identifier you choose in
Match Fields:

• Email (default) — preferred for most workspaces
• Customer ID — maps your warehouse customer_id to the Customer.io person id

Set up destination

1. In GrowthLoop, navigate to Destinations in the left sidebar.
2. Click New Destination in the upper right corner.
3. In the Select Destination window, search for Customer.io.
4. Click Add Customer.io.
5. Enter the following destination details:
   1. Destination Name: Enter a clear name your team will recognize.
   2. Sync Frequency: Choose how often GrowthLoop should export audiences by default.
   3. Site ID: Your Customer.io Track API Site ID.
   4. Track API Key: Your Customer.io Track API key.
   5. App API Key: Your Customer.io App API key.
   6. Region (Optional): Enter us (default) or eu.
6. Click Create. GrowthLoop validates the connection by listing segments in
   your Customer.io workspace.

Export to destination

1. Navigate to Audiences in the left sidebar.
2. Open the Audience you want to export and click Export.
3. Select your Customer.io destination.
4. Choose match fields (Email or Customer ID).
5. Click Start Export.

GrowthLoop creates the manual segment on first export (if needed), then keeps
membership in sync on later runs.

Finding your audience in Customer.io

1. Log in to Customer.io.
2. Open Segments.
3. Find the manual segment named after your GrowthLoop Audience.
4. Open the segment to review membership.

You can use that manual segment in Customer.io campaigns and workflows.
