Trigger campaigns in journeys
Trigger email and SMS from journey Destination nodes using GrowthLoop Channels or composable destinations.
From a journey Destination node, trigger email and SMS in two ways: send through GrowthLoop Channels, or trigger a campaign in a composable destination.
Both paths use the same journey canvas. The difference is who sends the message and where the creative lives.
Prerequisites
- A journey ready to edit
- Either:
- A GrowthLoop Email or GrowthLoop SMS destination with a channel configuration. See Configure email and SMS channels.
- A connected composable destination
- Templates or campaigns ready in Content Studio or the destination platform
Compare the two paths
| GrowthLoop Channels | Composable destinations | |
|---|---|---|
| Destination type | GrowthLoop Email / GrowthLoop SMS | Supported external engagement platforms |
| Who sends | GrowthLoop | The external platform |
| Content choices | GrowthLoop Content from Content Studio | GrowthLoop Content, External Content, and Campaigns |
| Typical setup | Channels + per-team destination | Platform credentials on the destination |
| Publish into platform | Not applicable because GrowthLoop is the sender | Optional. Publish Content Studio templates into the platform. |
Path A: Send with GrowthLoop Channels
- Open your journey and drag in a Destination node.
- Click Select a Destination and choose your GrowthLoop Email or GrowthLoop SMS connection.
- Set an Export Name.
- Select a template from GrowthLoop Content in the content picker.
- Map match fields, such as recipient email or recipient phone number.
- Map any personalization fields required by the template.
- Click Save.

NoteGrowthLoop Email and SMS are campaign-trigger destinations. They do not support standard audience exports, and they do not show platform-native External Content tabs because GrowthLoop is the sender.
Path B: Trigger a composable destination campaign
Use this path when a supported external engagement platform should execute the send.
- Open your journey and drag in a Destination node.
- Click Select a Destination and choose your composable destination connection.
- Set an Export Name.
- Choose a campaign action such as Send Email or Send SMS.

- Open the template or campaign field.
- Click Refresh if the list is empty or stale.
- Choose content using one of these options:
- Select an existing platform template from the dropdown.
- Click Pick from library to open the full content picker.
- In the content picker, choose GrowthLoop Content, External Content, or Campaigns.
- If you publish new content, complete Publish settings.
- Map recipient fields and personalization variables required by the template.
- Optionally send a test where the destination supports it.
- Click Save.

Platform-specific fields vary by destination. Complete any sender, template, campaign, match-field, or test-send options shown in the destination form.
Choose the right path
- Use GrowthLoop Channels when GrowthLoop should own delivery and you want Content Studio as the system of record for creative.
- Use composable destinations when creative, compliance, or deliverability already live in an external engagement platform and you want GrowthLoop to orchestrate who enters the campaign.
- Mix both in one journey when different steps should send through different systems.
Congrats - you can trigger campaigns from journeys!
